I took this picture on Sunday when we stopped by the cemetery. I’m posting it with permission from the model. :)

I’ve been having tons of fun learning new photo-doctoring techniques… today I learned how to color-isolate. So much fun! Here are the other photos I worked on today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62111440@N00/

Next up: macro lens for my birthday! :)

Jillangill’s Amazing Eyes

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

This weekend I took a trip to the Solvang area with some good friends (two of which went skydiving!!! *scared face*). I shot a lot with my new camera, and I continue to be surprised and delighted by what it can do. I’m thankful for a great buddy who has been helping me learn all the features (thanks Matt!).

You know what was interesting though…three of us went out to shoot some night pictures, and I’d be looking at something right in front of me but couldn’t capture it. There it was, and I could see it and know what I wanted my  picture to look like, but it just wasn’t happening.

Especially frustrating was how beautiful it looked to have this huge windmill in front of me with the Big Dipper in the background. But capturing that in a photo…can you even do that without spending thousands on equipment? It’s embarassing how much I take my eyes for granted.

Better equipment might’ve helped, but at the end of the day I just realized that our eyes really are mindblowingly amazing, able to do such complex things with such ease. I feel like it’s a great testament to the Master Designer that His technology simply can’t be duplicated.

More photos to come, but in the meantime check out my flickr photostream if you’d like to see some recent photo sets: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62111440@N00/
